movie facts

The Flare is the man-made disease in the fiction of the Maze Runner series. It affects individuals who eventually become known as Cranks, and the virus slowly eats away at the brain, turning them into bloodthirsty and rabid people. These infected are kept in a holding place called the Crank Palace. The early stages of the disease affect its host with symptoms of sudden mood swings, paranoia, and headaches. It eventually worsens into irrational anger and aggression. An infected, should the disease overwhelm them, will become a demented and cannibalistic lunatic. They become what is known as “the Gone” when they have completely lost their sanity. The development of the disease is agitated under stress. Those who seek treatment may acquire “the Bliss” which creates a sedated state on the senses and neural activity of a person. However, it is not a cure because its sedating qualities only seem to delay the inevitable turning into Cranks.
