Tonya Harding became a legend in 1991 as she became the first American woman to complete a triple axel during a competition. Only 3 years later, Harding’s world came crashing down. Her ex-husband and fellow Olympic hopeful Nancy Kerrigan conspired to attack her, causing her career to reach an impasse. Not only was Harding forced to withdraw from the national championship, but the infamous leg-whacking incident also hit her reputation and career with irreparable damage.
