The film is a creative interpretation of the buddy cop genre. Actor Simon Pegg plays Nicholas Angel who is the best and most respected cop in London. He does such a good job, that others around him often look bad. He is sent by his superiors to a village which is relatively crime-free in order to balance out the police force. His partner, officer Danny Butterman (played by Nick Frost) is an overachiever who dreams of the stereotypical police car chases and shootouts. With Angel now on his side, he thinks he’s now closer to that dream. But when a real scandal rocks the once crime-free village of Sanford, the pair may be in for more than they bargained for.

movie facts

The team behind the film Hot Fuzz are very open about their love for the action genre. This includes films like the Lethal Weapon series and Bad Boys II. One of their biggest inspiration came from the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry movies. These films star the actor Albert Powell frequently playing stereotypical roles in each subsequent film. Simon Pegg’s character Nicholas Angel was then named after Albert Powell as a tribute. Sergeant Powell would then go on to make his own name in the action movie hall of fame and be the next in a long line of action movie stars in the Three Flavors Cornetto comedic trilogy.
