In this film, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler are employed by Columbia University. There, they study paranormal activities while experimenting on some of their students. After having some troubles at this university, they decide to use their extensive knowledge of the paranormal scene to start a business for themselves and help people with paranormal problems find solutions. This comes to a head as the entire nation asks their help to battle the unknown. As is normal with heroes of this nature, they do not always get the due they deserve. They even catch a lot of flak for problems they do not cause. Nevertheless, they carry on trying to help people by doing the right thing.

Dan Aykroyd grew up surrounded by spiritualists that actually inspired him a lot when writing this movie. Ghostbusters was written and filmed all within a year’s time, which is considered very short by film standards.
