Snow Queen Elsa has set the kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter. Her optimistic sister Anna teams up with Kristoff and his loyal reindeer sidekick Sven to find Elsa. Along the way, they encounter fantastical creatures like trolls and a sentient snowman named Olaf. They battle against the harsh winter elements in order to retrieve Elsa and uplift the kingdom out of the icy winter.

Frozen has been a successful endeavor for Walt Disney. Since discovering Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Snow Queen”, Walt himself has desired to adapt the story on-screen since 1937. The animated musical has also gained notoriety for its catchy tune “Let It Go”. This song was actually the catalyst for the script to be rewritten and Elsa’s character transitioned from being an evil ice queen to a positive role model for kids. Songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez came to the scriptwriters with the song and it prompted Elsa to be a protagonist instead of being the initial antagonist as it was originally written in Andersen’s fairy tale. The song has gone on to be translated in over 41 languages worldwide. While animating the scene where Elsa is belting out the tune, the film’s animators recorded singer Idina Menzel singing the song in order to capture her movements and translate it onto the animation.

Frozen is the 2013 animated musical from Walt Disney. The story was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen”. Jennifer Lee’s screenplay for the film was finally commissioned during 2011, and she was joined by her co-director Chris Buck. Actors Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Santino Fontana all lend their voices for the characters in the film. With its general theatrical release on November 27, 2013, it was well-received with positive reviews as well as significant financial success with earnings of $1.276 billion worldwide.
