The Fantastic Beast franchise was originally meant to be a trilogy, but as of 2016, J.K. Rowling has stated that there will be 5 films in total. Although most of the film was shot at Leavesden's Warner Studios outside of London, the exterior shots of Hogwarts were filmed at Lacock Abbey. The Abbey was built in 1229 and has served as the location for Hogwarts shots throughout the Harry Potter series. Throughout the film, there are slight nods to the original Harry Potter series. There are several characters with familiar last names who are implied to be the ancestors of characters in the original Harry Potter series.
