Mr. Samuel Mullins is a wood crafter who specializes in wooden toys and dolls. He and his wife Esther are quite pleased with their life with their daughter Bee. Until a fatal road accident tragically takes Bee from the couple. After some time has passed, Esther and Samuel open their home to Sister Charlotte and 6 young girls from an orphanage. Esther at this time is bedbound with a mystery illness, and Samuel has become quiet and withdrawn. The girls are told not to explore the house but do not listen. Janice, a handicapped child is drawn to a closed room: Bee's old room. She appears to be led by the child's ghost, however, she finds a doll known as Annabelle. Strange things begin to happen and as things escalate, they begin to understand the cause of the problem.
