Alpha is set some 20,000 years ago during the last ice age. It follows Keda, an adolescent tribe member, as he embarks on his first hunt with the elders. During an attempt to drive a heard of bison off a cliff, Keda is driven over the cliff by a bison and is left for dead by the tribe on an unreachable ledge. Keda awakens alone on the ledge, suffering from a broken leg and other injuries. Realizing he must now get back to the village on his own, Keda begins the long journey but is attacked by a pack of wolves. Keda narrowly escapes the pack, injuring one of the wolves which are left behind. Keda cares for the injured wolf, which eventually follows him as he restarts his journey home. As they travel together, they become closer and protect each other from other enemies and struggles, becoming best friends like a boy and his dog.
