Won't You Be My Neighbor? traces Fred Rogers' life, from his initial plans to become a pastor to him finding the calling of being a children's television host. He wanted the show to be an oasis of calm in an otherwise chaotic environment. He was able to cover important subjects that no other children's television show could do at the time, such as death, self-esteem, and race relations. His show taught children to be empathetic and care for others no matter what they were like.
