Wonder is about a boy with facial deformities (Jacob Tremblay in prosthetic makeup), his loving and supportive family, and the challenges he faces. After years of homeschooling and numerous facial surgeries, his parents decide to enroll him in a private school. A normal child with a love of Star Wars and Minecraft, he is able to make new friends but is also bullied by some of the students. At the same time, Auggie is having problems with his friends. The students' attitude toward Auggie, and their treatment of him at the school, gradually changes as the children and staff getting to know this remarkable boy. Their eventual acceptance of him, although predictable, is handled in a heartwarming and believable way. It portrays the shallow ignorance of some people (not just children), and the fact that, underneath it all, everyone has worth and everyone faces challenges, no matter their outward appearance.

movie facts

While some criticized the decision to cast an actor in the lead that does not have mandibulofacial dysostosis (or Treacher Collins Syndrome), most acknowledged the talent of Jacob Tremblay in the part (he was in 2015's Room), and the skill of the make-up artists who transformed him into Auggie. This transformation took nearly two hours each day. Interestingly, the bike that Auggie rides in the film is the same bike that Elliott rides in 1982's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
