Hoping to breathe some excitement into her life Kim Bake, a copywriter for a New York news station takes a three-month assignment. This takes her to report on war-torn Afghanistan. Upon arriving she finds that he was nowhere near prepared for the emotional roller coaster she has stepped onto. From battling the conditions of everyday life, the sights she sees on the war front as well as being one of the only women in the area she finds a new battle at every turn. Her only hope is Tanya Vanderpoel, a fellow newsagent and Fahim Ahmadzai, her Afghan translator and guide.
