15-year-old Veronica is dealing with more than her fair share in life. Her mother works long hours at a local bar leaving the 15-year-old as a parental figure for her twin sisters Lucía and Irene, as well as her little brother, Antoñito. Veronica manages to convince two of her friends from her Catholic school to consult an Ouija board for a seance at the same time as a rare solar eclipse. Veronica is hoping she can speak with her deceased mother. When the attempt to contact those that have passed prove successful, Veronica finds herself in a supernatural realm. The demonic creatures manage to cross from the other side. The world all around them begins to infect not just Veronica, but everyone around them. But the question is, who did Veronica summon?

While the film was based on real events it doesn't quite portray what really happened. The true story involves Estefania Gutierrez Lazaro who is said to have hallucinations and seizures after performing the séance while at a school in Madrid. Estefania was attempting to communicate with the deceased boyfriend of a friend who had died 6 months prior. The actual cause of death of Estefani is unknown. British Music Magazine NME has since claimed the home she had lived in prior has since become haunted.

The film was based on events that happened in a 1991 Vallecas case where Estefanía Gutiérrez Lázaro died mysteriously after using an ouija board. The film was screened during the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was later released on Netflix and has been called the 'the scariest horror film ever'.
