movie facts

Tropic Thunder causes issues among the disability advocacy groups. Over 20 disability advocacy groups, including the Special Olympics and the Arc of the United States, objected to the film's repeated and excessive use of the word 'retard'. The groups were given a private screening to see if the film offended them before release, which it did. The groups picketed outside of the premier. There was also the issue of Robert Downey Jr. committing blackface with his portrayal of an Australian method actor who dons dark skin in order to play the role of a black sergeant. Downey did not receive much backlash for the role, which he claimed was a satirical image of actors and their narcissism.

Jackson. The screenplay was written by Justin Theroux, Stiller, and Ethan Cohen, which was earlier adapted from a story by Stiller and Theroux. Stuart Cornfeld, Stiller, and Eric McLeod produced the film for Red Hour Productions and DreamWorks Pictures as an international co-production between the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The film was a major production on behalf of the marketing team. They made fake websites for the members of the team, fake television specials, and fake energy drinks.
