Although SpongeBob is known as an animated series, the movie did feature some live-action sequences In one such scene, pirates are shown on a ship that is a 1960 replica of the HMS Bounty, a British ship from the 1700s. This replica was later sunk by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The writers of the movie wrote a part for David Hasselhoff before even approaching him to be in the movie. Luckily, he readily agreed when they asked him because his daughters wanted him to appear in the film. Some of the scenes Hasselhoff was featured are actually not him at all. Set designers built an 11-foot replica of Hasselhoff in order to avoid putting him in straining positions.
