If she fails to do so, Mia would be superseded by the nephew of the scheming Viscount Mabrey, who wants nothing but to see his nephew take the throne, in place of Mia. movie facts

The young adult book series upon which the first Princess Diaries film was directly based, as well as the inspiration for this sequel, Royal Engagement, is a long-running series of novels written by Meg Cabot and directed largely at a teenage girl demographic. The series focuses on the princess character Mia, born of author Cabot's childhood love of princesses and royalty, and also delves into the contemporary pop culture of the day at the time of release for each volume. The series, which debuted in 2000, is still going strong, with an eleventh main entry published in 2015, and a spinoff title also released that same year.

about the movie

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement is a 2004 American romantic comedy directed by Garry Marshall, returning from directing the first film in the series. It is a sequel to The Princess Diaries, released in 2001, though unlike that film, which was based directly on author Meg Cabot's 2000 young adult novel of the same name, this sequel was not based on a particular story from the book series. The movie was notably co-produced by singer and actor Whitney Houston and written by Shonda Rhimes. The movie stars Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, John Rhys-Davies, and Chris Pine in his feature film debut. Production was handled by Walt Disney Pictures, with distribution by Buena Vista. It earned over $134 million against a budget of $40 million.
