movie facts

The Godfather is considered to be a rarity - a film adaptation that even surpasses the acclaimed novel from which it is based. Its direction, screenplay, and acting have inspired those connected to the industry for decades. Although Marlon Brando won the Academy Award for Best Actor, he famously refused to accept it. He also failed to memorize most of his lines and read from cue cards for much of the film. Al Pacino refused to attend the Academy Awards ceremony, taking offense to the fact that he was nominated only for Best Supporting Actor when he had more screen time than Brando. 'I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse', is number two on the list of Top Movie Quotes, according to the American Film Institute. It is second only to 'Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn', from Gone with the Wind.
