Certain scenes in the movie were actually inspired by Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin of the silent area films. The director wanted the movements of Spiderman to tell the story in a funny way without even having to speak a word sometimes. Everyone knows that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was filmed on location in New York, but it is actually the largest movie to ever film in the city. A replica of Times Square built at the studio in Long Island because of how complex the scenes were The Producer Matt Tolmach said that unlike in the 50s and 60s comics his character Gwen was going to do more look cute and stay in the background. He wanted Gwen to be a strong character that knows what she wants an equal to Spiderman.
