The movie focuses on Christian 'Chris' Wolff, a forensic accountant for hire, played by Affleck. He works with many shady and illegal organizations, auditing business partners that his clients do not trust or are suspicious of. Chris operates in a way similar to a professional hitman, with a singular anonymous handler, a woman referred to only as 'The Voice'. Chris has become very well known for what he does and as such, many are out to kill him or take him in, including the US government. Much of the film is an action thriller focusing on his efforts to evade these opposing forces, but there is also more to Chris's backstory that is thoroughly explored in flashbacks. As a child, Chris is shown to be diagnosed with autism, which is both a handicap and an aid in his adult career. We see many scenes of his childhood, raised by a strict father who trains Chris to keep his autistic tendencies in check and use them to his advantage. In this way, Chris is made out to be something of a larger than life figure.
