Peter and MJ are back on track in their relationship with Peter set to propose as MJ, and in their professional lives with Peter doing well in school and MJ making her Broadway musical debut. But Peter is suddenly in turmoil with a lot on his plate. In addition to dealing with Eddie Brock, his rival photographer at work, he has to contend with an angry Harry seeking revenge against Peter following his father's death as the New Goblin. Peter is also faced with capturing Flint Marko, the man responsible for killing his Uncle Ben. However, Flint is no longer an ordinary man, but a monstrous villain named Sandman that seems unbeatable. And Peter is also dealing with an alien symbiote that attaches itself to Spider Man's suit and turns it black and brings out a darker side to his personality. As Peter contends with prevailing against his toughest villains yet, he must also face his own inner demons to come out victorious.

At an estimated cost of production of $258 million, Spider Man 3 was the most expensive film ever made at the time of its release. Development of the film began soon after the release of Spider Man 2 and it took approximately 2 years and 10 months to make. The visual effects necessary to create villain Sandman were a large part of the extended shooting period as it took 6 months to create the first shot of his formation.

Spider Man 3 is the third and final installment of Sam Raimi's original Spider Man trilogy. It premiered on May 4, 2007 in the United States and earned $890.8 million at the box office. This film received mostly positive from critics, but is widely regarded as the weakest film in the trilogy. The film cast includes returning stars from the first two movies including Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider Man, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, James Franco as Harry Osborn/New Goblin, Rosemary Harris as Aunt May, and JK Simmons as J.
