movie facts

The theme park ride upon which the movie and eventual film franchise are based is a classic attraction at all Disney parks. The original version of the ride was opened at Disneyland in California in 1967 and has the honor of being the final ride at the park to be conceived and designed prior to Walt Disney's death. All versions of the ride are similar in that they are a dark ride, a rollercoaster taking place largely in dark interiors, with water, animatronics, and sound effects that set the tone for riders. The entire experience is based upon the concept of fictional pirate adventures, with visuals and music to match. The Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise is also now memorialized in the ride itself with a chest of golden medallions as part of the decoration, in a not to the Curse of the Black Pearl.
