A tale set against the backdrop of World War II, the film revolves around the romantic war waged by two first lieutenants for a beautiful nurse during the turmoil of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Attack on Pearl Harbor is considered as one of the most fatal attacks by the Japanese army on the US forces on December 7, 1941. The tragedy claimed the lives of more than 2,000 military personnel, which led to the official participation of the U.S in the World War II. The attack came as a surprise to the U.S., but the two countries had been teetering on the threads of hostility for years as the Japan government had been taking aggressive actions against China. The strategy came about as Japan’s preventive action to keep its military strategies in Southeast Asia beyond interference. In the hours that ensued, Japan also struck territories under the U.S., such as the Philippines, Guam, and Wake Island. This prompted the whole country to officially wage war against Japan on December 8, 1941, after a long series of polarizing debates surrounding their diplomatic relations with Japan. The following days saw Japan’s allies, Germany and Italy, declaring war against the U.S. The U.S., of course, did not budge. They stood their ground and declared war against the aforementioned countries.
