Deanna, played by McCarthy, is a middle-aged wife with a 22-year old daughter. After dropping her daughter off at her University, Deanna is confronted by her husband, played by Matt Walsh, and tells her he wants a divorce because he has fallen in love with a local real-estate agent. With her heart broken and marriage over, Deanna looks to salvage her life and resolve her past regret of dropping out of college in her senior year when she was pregnant with her daughter. She decides to go back to school, the same school her daughter currently attends. Transitioning to college is hard enough as a teen, but downright hilarious as a middle-aged mom in her 40's. Deanna's journey to finish her Archaeology degree while trying to fit in and not embarrass her daughter is easier said than done.
