American-born Chinese economics professor Rachel Chu travels to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick Young who invites her to attend his best friend’s wedding. Everything sounds like a fun adventure until Rachel learns her boyfriend’s family is prominent in Asia for their abundance of wealth. She is also astonished when she finds out Nick is one of the most sought-after bachelors. Rachel tries to prove her worth to Nick’s family and friends who are willing to stop at nothing to break them up.

The film had its premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on August 7, 2018. It entered U.S. theaters on August 15, 2015. The film was met with positive remarks for its performances, screenplay, and the production and costume design. It also made history in Hollywood for featuring a majority of Asian-American cast in a modern setting. The film garnered over $238 million gross earnings worldwide as opposed to its production budget of $30 million. It claimed the top spot for the highest-grossing romantic comedy in ten years. Crazy Rich Asians took two nominations at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, one of which is for Constance Wu. The first one is Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. The other is Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for Wu. Similarly, it received four nominations at the 24th Critics’ Choice Awards and one at the 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards. It has been revealed that a sequel is already being worked on.
