After being in development for five years, Cinderella debuted at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival on February 13, 2015. It was shown in US theaters on March 13, 2015, and in UK theaters on March 27. The film grossed a total of $543 million worldwide, almost five times its production budget of $100 million. As of late, it is considered as Branagh’s highest-grossing film. It also grabbed the twelfth highest-grossing film of 2015 in any genre. Cinderella largely won praise from critics for the performances, production values, music, direction, costume design, and congruity with the original animated film. Particular praise was given to James, Blanchett, and Carter. The film was nominated for several awards at Teen Choice Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and Kids’ Choice Awards among others. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gave the film an 84% approval rating based on 227 reviews. Metacritic indicated generally positive results. Likewise, Cinderella earned a grade of A from audiences polled by CinemaScore.
