Cars 3, like the other movies in the Cars franchise, draws heavily from NASCAR for inspiration. Many of the supporting roles in the movie are voiced by actual NASCAR drivers, including Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Jeff Gordon, and Daniel Suarez along with many others. Cars 3 also drew material from recordings of Paul Newman's own experiences as a race car driver that was made before his death in 2008.
