Cam takes place in the world of webcam porn. The movie follows 'camgirl' Alice Ackerman who has a nude show that she broadcasts from her home studio. Early in the film, Alice is consumed with growing in popularity on the site and hopes to break the top 50 webcam shows or even be number one. She keeps her webcam life a secret from her mother and brother. One day, her own account is hacked, and a look-alike has taken Alice's place. What ensues is a psychological web of terror as Alice's internet 'copycat' pushes her identity to its limits and wreaks havoc on Alice's life and the people in it.

movie facts

Interestingly, the film was loosely developed because writer Isa Mazzei spent time working as a camgirl when she was younger. Mazzei noted that her movies were often pirated and used without her permission, which acted as a basis for the story. Isa also has a cameo as a checkout girl in the movie. There is also a running homage to Lewis Carroll's classic story Alice in Wonderland. For instance, two of Alice's online handles in the movie are 'MadHatter' and 'MrTeapot', which are of course characters in Alice in Wonderland. The movie received generally favorable reviews online from critics and regular viewers alike.
