Set in northern Italy in the summer of 1983, Call Me By Your Name is a 2017 coming-of-age romantic drama based on the 2007 novel of the same name by André Aciman. It was directed by Luca Guadagnino and its screenplay was written by James Ivory. It was produced by Peter Spears and Howard Rosenman. The film is the third and final installment in Guadagnino's thematic Desire trilogy, following his 2009 film I Am Love and his 2015 film A Bigger Splash. The main characters of the film are Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer. It also features Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, Esther Garrel, and Victoire Du Bois.

The film had been in development for a decade. In 2007, producers Spears and Rosenman optioned the book. The film received financial support from several international companies. It had its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2017 where it gained a standing ovation from the audience. A limited release started on November 24, 2017 and pushed through with a general release on January 19, 2018. The film won a number of accolades for its screenplay, direction, acting, and music. Call Me By Your Name garnered a worldwide total of $41.9 million against a production budget of $3.4 million. It claimed Sony Pictures Classics' third-highest-grossing release of 2017. Guadagnino has already expressed the possibility of a sequel, saying the main characters could go beyond the confines of the film.
