Life could not be more unfortunate for Annie Walker. She is already in her mid-thirties, but it seems things do not really fall into place: her business venture failed to pan out, her boyfriend called it quits, and she suffered from a financial loss, which left her with no choice but to live with offbeat English roommates and work as a sales clerk in a jewelry store. Thankfully, she has Lillian, her best friend, as her virtual confidante. But it was not long until Lillian becomes engaged and asks Annie to serve as her maid of honor. Although she has not completely had the chance to get herself together, Annie goes to great lengths for her best friend.

movie facts

Long-time friends Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig wrote the Bridesmaids under the working title Maid of Honor. The idea for the film traces back to 2006 when Wiig landed a supporting role in Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up. Apatow saw Wiig potential in the comedy genre, so she approached her to pitch an idea for a screenplay. Wiig collaborated with Mumolo. Together, the two conceived Bridesmaids. In the years that ensued, the two wrote the screenplay, with Wiig still employed on Saturday Night Live and Mumolo putting her energy on the script in Los Angeles. On weekends, the two would meet Apatow to ask his guidance on creating the film.
