Naruto is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. The story follows an adolescent ninja Naruto Uzumaki as he seeks acceptance of his peers. Naruto also dreams of being the leader o his village. The comic series is broken in two parts. The first series tells of the pre-teen years of the character, with the second series telling of the characters teen years. The story has taken on a larger life. The story was released in a 72 volume book form. Since then it has been released in a 220 episode TV series from 2002 to 2007. From 2005 to 2009 Cartoon Network ran an English version of the show. A sequel, Naruto Shippuden was running from 2007 to 2017, with over 500 episodes. Disney XD then went to their own running of the series from 2001 to 2009. There have also been 11 original movies made based on the series.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie was released in 2015. This Japanese animated film was the directorial debut of Hiroyuki Yamashita. The film is based on Masashi Kishimoto's manga and anime Naruto. The film stars the voices ofYūko Sanpei, Junko Takeuchi, Kokoro Kikuchi and Noriaki Sugiyama. The film was the franchises highest grossing film. Due to home media sales, it actually became Japan's best selling release of 2016. Upon release, critics were rather pleased with the film with praise towards animation, fight scenes and the growth of the Boruto's character. The film made US$39.5 million in overall box office sales.
