movie facts

Heath Ledger’s phenomenal performance as the Clown Prince of Gotham earned the late actor an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, which was unheard of whenever you play the villain. His transformation from heartthrob to psychopath took a lot out of the actor, with many speculating it to be the cause of his death. Behind the scenes, Ledger took his method so seriously that he locked himself alone in a room for 43 days, isolating himself with his thoughts. His iconic mannerism of flicking out his tongue was due to the makeup he wore making his lips dry, therefore every time he spoke, he would flick out his tongue to wet his lips. Completing his look, Ledger bought cheap drugstore makeup and applied it himself, which director Christopher Nolan vetoed, and ordered to be replicated by Ledger’s makeup artists.
